Meatballs with Ilha Cheese

Meatballs with Ilha Cheese

Ingredients

Meatballs:

500g ground meat (soft topside)

2 eggs

3 tablespoons of breadcrumbs

1/2 chopped onion

salt and pepper to taste

Sauce:

1/2 onion, chopped

1/2 chopped garlic

3 tablespoons of olive oil

4 fresh well ripened tomatoes or 1 can of tomato sauce

1/2 can of water

1 pinch of sugar

salt, pepper, basil and grated Ilha cheese to taste

Preparation

Meatballs

Add all ingredients in a bowl and mix well.

Take a dessert spoon as a measure and make the balls (yields around 45 units).

Heat a pan with 2 to 3 fingers of olive oil and fry the meatballs until lightly browned (inside you may get raw, as they will finish cooking next to the tomato sauce and become juicier).

Reserve them.

Sauce

Sauté the onion and garlic in olive oil.

Add the tomato, after removing the skin (or the sauce), the water, the seasonings to taste and let it boil on a medium heat.

As soon as the sauce begins to bubble, add the meatballs (also put the broth that they must have released in the container in which they were reserved), cover the pan and leave it on low / medium heat for another 5 minutes.

Place on a plate, decorate with basil and grated Ilha cheese and bon appétit!

Tip of the day: Serve it with a fresh tomato salad with oregano…Yummy!
